FIFTY SHADES OF NIGERIA BY TALABI AYOBAMI
A decadent society of over a hundred&seventy million people, with an underwhelming use of labour. A country vastly blessed but light years behind in development. Where terrorism is the order of the day, with the terrorists weaving a heavy hand and the military cowering in fear. A place where an epimedic spreads like a wild fire, infected people escape the confines of the quarantine stattio. Where the "bring back our girls" hash tag has been turned into a parody by insensitive campaign organization bent on seeing the President return to office come next general elections. Just to mention a few in a long list of the comedy of errors. The people/populace have become cautious and wary of the government. This is probably as a result of a cummulation of series of events over a long period that has lowered the expectation of the people from their government. Recent improvement in power supply and construction of roads are seen as campaign stunts in preparation towards the next election. The populace elect the leaders, hoping for change. Rather, these leaders form a redundant government and towards the expiration of the tenure, they throw crumbs at the poverty stricken populace, like we witnessed in Ekiti and Osun, where raw and cooked rice were shared. Accompanying this, are the usual empty promises. This is plan A. In case plan A flops, plan B waits in the wings. A rigging process to ensure they win at all cost. But is the government solely responsible for this failed society?
